Is that person Genuine, or a fraud?
Thinking of using the services of a dating agency? Millions of people have
done so worldwide over the last few years and a very high proportion of them
have found friendships at least, with substantial numbers of meeting someone
with whom they have gone on to have long-term relationships or even marriage
with. Unfortunately not everything has worked out and there are a number of
people who go to dating agencies for purposes other than finding a mate; often
their aims financial and not romantic! Here are two of the most common scams.
Firstly; there are the young women who are looking for an older man and the
advertisements often includes a few claims about how this poor young female,
despite an excellent education and a love of culture has been cruelly dumped
by a succession of boyfriends and is now seeking to settle down. A photograph
is usually enclosed of an absolutely unbelievably attractive woman in a
provocative pose. I say ' unbelievably attractive ' because it simply isn't
true; the person who placed the advertisement is probably male, with a beard,
bad teeth and unsavoury eating habits and if any lonely gentleman was
unfortunate enough to contact this person it would not be long before a
heartbreaking story was presented along with a request for money to save her
poor dying mother's live or to to pay off her debts so that she could come and
join her beloved as soon as possible. The unfortunate dupe who paid up would
probably be milked for more and more money until they penny finally dropped
and he realised that not only was he being swindled but that his hopes of
settling down with a beautiful woman never had any basis in fact right from
the start.

The other type of con is from the would be immigrant, or the person who was
already in this country illegally. This type of person is usually quite easy
to spot because first and foremost English is not their first language and saw
the advertisement is badly spelt and punctuated with many flowery phrases.
Often there is an over emphasis on this person's love of God. The final and
total giveaway is where the person concerned gives us or her address;
inevitably the town they claim to live in was not match the name of the county
that they write down; putting in something like Glasgow in Avon, England is
the most common mistake made. Now it may well be that these people are
genuinely looking for someone to love, but how anyone could love such a poor
liar would be difficult to understand. Forgive me for being cynical, if I
suggest that the purpose of the ad is not to find a lover, or to secure a
British passport.
Don't let all this put you off; there are still millions of decent people
out there and a lot of them are probably looking for someone just like you.
Good luck!
